JJ and Aves absolutely fill every room they’re in with joy and love. The love they have for one another and those around them is infectious and palpable! I was so excited for their barn wedding here in Oregon this summer. (Check out their engagement photos from last fall here!)
Josie and Avery met in March of 2020, right when the pandemic was really hitting. JJ drove from Oakland to Sacramento to meet Aves for the first time, along with his entire family! She was only there to stay for dinner…and ended up staying for an entire week.
JJ told me: I knew I loved Aves after I spent that first night at his house. I felt so welcomed and so loved by him, his family, and his friends from the moment I met them and that’s when I knew this was my person and these were my people. When I called Katie (a friend) as I was driving home from that week, I was crying because I felt so crazy. I was wondering, “how the hell do I love someone this much after such a short period of time?” He was the one from the moment I met him.
For Aves, it was pretty much the same! He says that he’s loved JJ since “the moment she stepped out of the blueberry.” (The blueberry = JJ’s car!)
JJ and Aves were going for an airy, spring-like vibe for their wedding in beautiful Aurora, and they nailed it! The color palette included lavender, sage green, and dusty blue. Even though the sky was overcast, it complimented everything so well, and made the temperature perfectly comfortable all day long.
The venue, The Barn at Countryside, was a dream come true! JJ loved how elegant the getting-ready suite was, and how the view from the property allowed them to see Mt. Hood right from the ceremony location. They also knew that a flexible space with indoor and outdoor options for their celebration was a must, since the Oregon weather can be so unpredictable! This isn’t your classic, rustic barn wedding venue — it’s an entire level up to a classy, elegant, comfortable space.
I could just go on and on about all the special touches for this gorgeous barn wedding. JJ’s grandfather put on her necklace, which was made from her grandmother’s opal ring. All of the nerves dissipated for both JJ and Aves as soon as they saw each other during their first look.
And, they had their engagement photos all around their venue! Seeing that was a huge full-circle moment for me as their photographer. Their friend, Jessica, was one of the first to hire me back in 2019. That connection led me to this sweet couple, and being able to photograph their engagement and their beautiful barn wedding.
