Bend Family Photographer on Prepping Kids for Photos

First and foremost, don’t forget to pack your patience and grace for your little fam! Being in front of the camera can sometimes feel a little overwhelming and might even be new for all, if not some of you! I don’t know how many sessions begin with parents apologizing for their kids before we even begin, and i’m here to tell you, you don’t need to! Take a breathe and remember that these are YOUR amazing children, and nobody else’s. There is zero expectation for them to be anything other than who they are, and we are simply documenting the perfectly imperfect life that you are building together. This Bend Family Photographer comes prepared with different tricks, prompts and games to keep these young ones engaged and occupied! However, just incase you feel you need more, here are some things you can also do to prepare.

Bend Family Photographer on Prepping Newborns + Babies

Sleeping > Awake

Thankfully, newborns sleep a lot, generally speaking. Your best bet for awesome newborn pictures? Sleeping ones, 100%. Here are some tips for keeping them good and sleepy for their photoshoot:

• Feed and burp them right before
• Make sure they’re in a clean diaper
• Put on a noise machine (if you don’t have one they love, we can play this over a speaker)
• Make sure the room is warm!
• Swaddle them tightly in a simple wrap

Items to have/bring

• Boppy Pillow/Baby Support Pillow
• Changes of clothes (incase of blowouts)
• Clean diapers + booty/facial wipes

Practice!

If you have a camera around or even just with your phone, take some time to practice! Talk to your kids about what you are going to be doing and practice counting down and saying “cheese” a few times! 

Shy Young Ones?!

Let’s Facetime or Zoom together one afternoon! This way they can see my face, hear my voice and even introduce themselves. This way, on the day of your session, it’ll be just like taking pictures with old friends!
